how to identify and alleviate a bad smell
first, locate the most likely offenders.
second, use your powers of deduction. walk away from the trash can. if the smell follows you - its the socks!
If the smell does not follow you - its the trash!
third, depending on the culprit, either take the trash out or take your socks off and bury them in the laundry pile.
Note: if you do one and it still smells, it is entirely possible that the smell was coming from both.
